THE PRESBYTERIAN
As faithful members of the Presbyterian
be involved in
the ministry of God’s church.
Our mission is a twofold responsibility;
to nurture and
support our local church;
and to follow
Christ’s call to serve in the world, thereby proclaiming the Gospel to
all.
The Interim Search Committee is planning to interview a
prospective Interim Pastor in the next two weeks. They also will continue to
consider other possibilities that are brought to their attention. The revised
Church Information Form (CIF) was approved by the Session and the Committee on
Ministry of the Presbytery. When a PIN
number is assigned by Executive Presbyter Don Owens the CIF can be posted
online for interested pastors to learn about our open position.
Last week, with outstanding effort
and dedication to the task by our Church Secretary Connie Boese, the Mission
Study Committee was able to send a 27 question survey to approximately 340
members, non-members and friends of the Garden City Presbyterian Church. This survey is an important step in the
process of recruiting and selecting a new minister, and additionally it will
provide current and future sessions
with important information on the wishes of the congregation with regard to
worship services and other programs. If
you have already received but not completed the survey, please take a few
minutes to answer the questions and return it to the Church in the envelope
provided. If you did not receive a survey and would like to have one mailed to
you, please contact Connie at the church office with your
request. Your input is important, so please favor us with your reply.

“Bee” part of the fun!
October 31st between 5:00 – 7:00
we’re inviting trick or treaters to come to our parking lot for our
Tailgate Trick or Treat. So put your
Halloween treats in the trunk of your car and come to the church parking lot
(west side) by 4:45. When you are ready
to go home, just close your trunk and we’ll help you exit. Come in costume if you like, and be ready to
welcome kids to our church property.
We’ll have some special stickers and candy with scripture verses to hand
out along with the other goodies. All
youth groups will be participating in some way.
“Bee” one of our Advent writers -
Sign
up for writing an Advent devotion to be printed in our self-published
booklet. Sign up sheets are in the
atrium – pick a date slip, choose a reading and verse, write a devotion and
submit it by Sunday, November 4th.
The ideal devotional (1) is short, about 200 words (2) is simple, keeps
to one topic (3) draws a spiritual analogy from an everyday situation or
experience (4) begin with a Scripture and ends with a prayer. You can do it! We need writers of all backgrounds!
“Bee” curious and check it out!
In recognition of Presbyterian
missions, we will be featuring different nations or areas during the month of
October. We will display in the atrium
letters from missionaries, cultural items, and a DVD on Presbyterian
missions. If you have a special area
you would like featured, please contact Mary.
The
Stewardship Committee has planned our third annual Garage Sale.
Saturday,
October 27th from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.
What a great way to clean out those unwanted items that are being
stored in basements or garages, at the same time helping to continue our
mission here in our church, our community and around the world.
Please consider donating the things
cluttering your garage or basement. Old sporting equipment, yard equipment,
useable furniture, even those ‘I may need this someday’ items that have been
around for years.
Nothing to donate? Come by the garage sale, we
might have one of those treasures you have been looking for.
We will be selling the old round tables, which
are in very good condition, for a price of $100.00 each.
If you’d like your ‘college student’ to be able to keep up
with
what is happening within our church while they
are
away at school, please let the church office know
their
address for this year.
Missing small jewelry items?
Check with the church office to see if it
has been turned in.
We
have one or two items that have not been claimed.
