Interim
Pastor Search
The Interim Pastor Search Committee has completed the Church
Information Form and the Session has approved it. It is now in the hands
of the Presbytery’s Committee on Ministry but they are not going to approve it
without at least one change. They are also checking with the
When
the Church Information Form is approved it can be posted online to get national
exposure for our interim search. In the meantime we will follow up with
any possibilities that we hear about in this area.
Ordained
Elders
The Worship Committee is
seeking ordained elders interested in being trained to administer
Communion. This would involve 4-5 hours of training on Saturday, October
6. The time has not been set, but the training would take place here in
Garden City. The names of those elders would then be forwarded to
Presbytery for their November meeting. The ability of these elders to
administer the elements would end when an interim or regular pastor is named. If
you are an ordained elder and interested, please contact Anne Hamlett or Rod
Buchele.
Dear Friends;
Thank
you so much for the great gathering and supper on Tuesday, September 4th. A
special thanks to Cheryl Sweley for organizing and hostessing the evening. It
is with heavy heart that I leave this church and its wonderful members. I have
benefited from the friendships, fellowship and caring that has been the
hallmark of the Garden City Presbyterian Church. I will miss seeing your faces,
the joy of the choir and the challenges of the Sunday school and Deacons. God
bless you all.

Lay Ministry would like to
thank everyone who helped with the Block Party. Mary's labyrinth was lots of
fun. The Dance Revolution was the most popular. The food was good. The new
basketball goal will be great for the kids. The Outdoor Center Proposal was
intriguing. The Praise Band was awesome. Thanks to the people who delivered the
door hanger invitations, at least you got some exercise. It's great to see
our church at work. We just have to find a way to connect to the
community.
We have a box of 32 hamburger patties, a 3 lb box of
‘singles’ cheese slices,
several packages of hot dogs
and hamburger and hot dog buns. If you would like to purchase any of these
items please contact the church office.
Kansas Children’s
Service League Head Start Book Drive
Please support children and literacy in our
community by supporting the Reading Rocks Book Drive for Head Start
children. By donating new or gently used books to this book drive, you will be
insuring the poverty level children ages 0-5 years have books in their home and
can begin to enjoy reading early. A donation box is located in the Atrium and
donations can be made through September 30th. For additional
information, contact Lisa Russell at Kansas Children’s Service League at
276-3232, ext. 1106.
Parish Nurse Notes
I just completed the
week long parish nurse basic prep class in
The main instructor
discouraged us from rushing to start things in our churches – instead she
encouraged us to use this the next 30 days to pray about the parish nurse
ministry in our individual congregations.
Each parish nurse program should be individualized according to the
needs of the community and congregation, the availability of the parish nurse
and the strengths and experiences of the nurse and resources available. Would
you please join me in praying God will reveal a vision, direction and purpose
for the parish nurse ministry in our church?
I have lots of dreams for the program and I have faith that resources
are limitless if we are following His plan.
I have been busy organizing the parish nurse office and have
put up resources on the bulletin board and books on throughout the office. I encourage you to come and browse. If you would like a copy of the resources or
would like to borrow something, just leave me a note by the phone in the
office. I made copies on bright yellow
paper of handout titled “Back Door Reading” for you to each take one.
I am truly blessed to serve such wonderful people in this
congregation.

Psalm 150 - Praise the Lord
…with resounding cymbals.
We certainly raised loud praise to the Lord at
the worship service held during the back-to-school lock-in. Later we baked and delivered brownies to the
Police and Fire departments, after appropriate tasting of course. We marked out a prayer labyrinth on a canvas
as big as half the atrium (to be painted later for the block party), played
“sardines,” discussed the coming year in youth group, and watched “Facing the
Giants,” an inspirational football movie.
Thanks to Randy McVey & Daryl Hamlett for coming for worship and
support, and to Kurt Peterson and Becky and Anna McVey for making this a fun
event for our youth!
Great fun and fellowship at
the Tumbleweed worship service and Food Stand. Thanks to all who worked, especially Bob and Audrey Law,
and also to the Reeve’s for their donation.
Lots of community members came by to eat, visit, and see the photos of

Block Party – Photos will be on
the website soon. Good food, good fun, good fellowship. Celebration team, Lay ministry and
Fellowship committees did a great job.
Youth Group kick-off Sept 12 – if you weren’t there, plan to come next

Peacemaking offering banks will be given to children in Sunday School

Commitment to
Peacemaking
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called
children of God,”
Matthew 5:9
On Sunday, October 7 we will be collect the Peacemaking
Offering as we celebrate World Communion Sunday.
Peace is the wholeness and well-being that God wills for all
creation. Although the effects of human sin wound all creation, God is
continually at work in the world offering healing, wholeness, mercy, justice,
and peace. God’s peace is offered wherever there is brokenness - in individual
lives, families, congregations, communities, nations, and creation.
God’s gift of peace is most profoundly exemplified in the life
and ministry of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Christ calls all who profess
faith in him to share the gospel message of peace to a broken and insecure
world. Responding to this gracious gift, the church, as the body of Christ, is
called to join with others and go into the world to build a culture of peace
and nonviolence for all God’s creation.
About the 2007
Peacemaking Offering
“And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of
the nations”
Revelation 22:2
This year’s Peacemaking Offering theme is taken from a verse in
the book of Revelation. The verse is part of a larger description of John's
vision of the new
It is an image of a world at
peace, with enough for everyone to eat and the “medicine” to heal all the
wounds and illnesses of humankind.
We live in the hope of that vision of peace and well-being
expressed so vividly in the tree of life. The Peacemaking Offering is a tool of
our efforts to live and work within that hope. You are invited to be a part of
the work for peace in our world and to have your congregation receive the
Peacemaking Offering as one way to work toward peace.
Meals on Wheels
Beginning Monday, October 1st
through October 13th, we have been asked to deliver Meals on
Wheels. Meal bags will now be ready for pick up at the South entrance of
the hospital
at 11:15 am.
If you would
like to volunteer, it takes approximately one hour to deliver each route.
Sign up sheets
are located in the church office on the front desk.
Parents
of College Students
If you’d like your “college student” to be able to keep up with what is
happening at our church while they are away at school, please give Connie their
address for this year. She will then see to it that your student stays in touch
with our church while they are away.
