Four Accounts of Jesus’
Resurrection
In the Parlor for 3 Sunday’s beginning April 15th
The account of Jesus’ burial and resurrection is
found in all four gospels and mentioned by Paul. While all accounts affirm his resurrection, they differ to
various degrees. What do Christians
believe about these differences and what do we mean when we affirm that Jesus
was raised from the dead. If you would like to receive an e-mail or hard copy
of the materials for this study, please
contact Mary at the church office 275-9141,
or e-mail her at mrbuchele@hotmail.com.
“Therefore go and make disciples
of all
nations,… teaching them to obey
everything I have commanded you.”
We will be acknowledging the caring ministry our
teachers and youth sponsors have given to our children, youth and adults on
April 15th, Teacher – Sponsor Recognition Sunday. This is a day to say thank you to them for
their dedication to following the Great Commission Christ gave us all in
Matthew 28:19-20.
2007 1st Quarter
Financial Update
Some of the monthly Stewardship
Committee’s responsibilities include the review of the church budget. This
review consists of the monitoring of expenses on a line by line comparison of
what the actual expenses are compared to the amount budgeted. The receipts are
also reviewed. It is then important to then match up the expenses to the
receipts to give us an ongoing tool to evaluate the financial health of the
church.
Historically the church finances
get off to a good start at the first of the year with pledges and offerings
that meet or exceed the expenses, even with the knowledge that these months
will be our highest heating months. 2007 has been different as the paid pledges
and gifts have not kept up with expenses and we have used up 38.78% of our
prepaid pledges with only 25% of the year gone.
This might not to seem to be too
much out of line except that the reality is we often use the majority of our
prepaid pledges to help get through the summer months. Summer is often a time
when church giving drops off while our expenses, on the other hand, continue at
a constant rate.
Here are some of the 1st
¼ numbers.
Numbers are expressed as a percentage of the total
2007 budget:
Receipts
Paid pledges - 22.58%
Loose offering - 20.78 %
Unpledged gifts - 12.70 %
Total receipts - 21.55%
Note: 32% of the total receipts have been funds
transferred from prepaid pledges
Expenses
Snow removal - 152%
Gas for heating - 70.62%
Total expenses - 24.54%
Note: Nearly every other expense line item is at
or below budget year-to-date numbers.
I realize that I have shared a
lot of numbers. Most of the time when you hear from the Stewardship Committee
it is often about the need for more money. And it does take a consistent flow
of money to meet our financial obligations. The more important big picture is
that I feel that the church does an excellent job of accomplishing its many
important mission responsibilities with the gifts and offerings that we
receive. The committee does not know where all of the money will come from to
accomplish the 2007 budget. It does have faith that support for The
Presbyterian Church of Garden City will continue. This support will come from
those that will fulfill their pledge this year, those that have decided to give
unpledged gifts, and those that will give second mile giving. Our church is
here today because of the many faithful members and friends of the church that
have given so generously. We are very thankful for all these gifts and
offerings.
There will always be financial
challenges that our church will face. With your prayers the church and the
Stewardship Committee will continue to meet those challenges. If anyone has
questions or concerns please contact any of the Stewardship Committee members:

Thanks again,

Please
read the Church Budget Update that is at the end of every newsletter. The
budget update should help inform the church of its financial condition
throughout the year.
