Our Worship
of God
Christmas
Eve
December 24, 2006
7:00 PM
The progressive
lighting of the candles in the Advent wreath is a cherished part of our
congregational heritage. In order to build on that tradition, we have created a
series of readings which illuminated the advent theme of journeying. After all,
the Advent/Christmas/Epiphany cycle evokes Mary and Joseph’s trip to Bethlehem
and flight to Egypt, the travels of the wise men, and Christ’s journey in the
incarnation. The readings are designed to educate the congregation about the
geography and history of the ancient world. By focusing on a different locale
each week, we are able to review our own spiritual journey in the light of
biblical times and places. The way to Bethlehem is challenging and joyful. We
are pleased to be sharing the journey together.

given to us.
Leader: Authority rests upon his shoulder, and he is
named.
People: Wonderful
Counselor, Mighty God.
Leader: Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Forgive our doubt and renew our hope, so
that we may receive the fullness of your grace, and live in the truth of
Christ the Lord.

God
of grace and truth, in Jesus Christ you came among us as light shining in
darkness. We confess that we have not
welcomed the light, or trusted the good news
to be good. We have closed our eyes to glory
in our midst, expecting little, and
hoping for less. Forgive us, illumine us, restore our sight, that we might see
you, and
trust you, anew.
*Declaration
of Pardon
Leader: Friends, hear the Good News! The Lord has
come, and is coming again.
People:
Let the peace of God keep guard over our hearts and our thoughts, in Christ Jesus.
Leader: Friends, believe the Good News!
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
Leader: The Lord is near. Have no anxiety, but in everything make your requests known to God in prayer and petition with thanksgiving.
*Song of
Christmas Joy
“O Come All Ye Faithful”
Sing,
choirs of angels, Sing in exultation!
Sing, all ye
citizens of heaven above!
Glory
to God, all Glory in the highest!
O
come, let us adore Him, O come let us adore Him,
O
come let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord

Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere;
Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born!
1.) While shepherds kept their watching o’er silent flocks by night,
Behold throughout the heavens There shone a holy light.
2.) The shepherds feared and trembled when lo! above the earth,
Rang out the angel chorus that hailed our Savior’s birth.
3.) Down in a lowly manger the humble Christ was born,
And God sent us salvation that blessed Christmas morn.

Tonight is the official gathering of the Christmas Joy
Offering. This is one of the four official offerings of the Presbyterian
Church. The money from this offering is used to supplement the incomes of
missionaries and ministers who have spent their lives serving congregations of
less than 100 people. The recipients of this offering served churches who did
not have the funds to fully support the pension of those
individuals. The other half of the offering is used to compensate the ethnic colleges that our church supports. This truly is an offering of Good News!
