With
Jesus Christ as our Head, we aspire to be a church home and family, visible and
open to all in the community, where people come to be welcomed, included, loved
and nurtured; where people come to quench their spiritual thirst. We
OFFER true hospitality to all, seeking to know them and
their needs.
We are proud to say that the Presbyterian Church has been in continuous
service to it’s members and this community since 1886! Obviously, the current church building is
not that dated. The original church was
located at the corner of Spruce & Garden City Ave. served until 1929.
Following a devastating and tragic fire in 1985, the second church
located at 7th and Pine Streets near downtown was almost totally
destroyed. With the help of a caring
community in the interim, and the commitment and faith of our congregation,
this new facility was dedicated in 1986.
This challenge and the resulting beautiful place of worship is a
testament to our greatest asset, the people of this Presbyterian Church.
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) began its independence like most
protestant religious dominations from the Reformation movement. In particular, John Calvin is widely
recognized as the father of this denomination we call the Presbyterian. He and John Knox, a Scottish pastor,
insisted that believers be informed in the faith, and consequently the study of
scripture and faith issues is a characteristic for which Presbyterians are
known and respected.
As Presbyterians we affirm the power, holiness, and love of God who has
created, sustains, rules and redeems the world. No confession of faith looks merely to the past: every confession seeks to cast the light of
a priceless heritage on the needs of the present moment, and so to shape the
future. Our worship then makes the
Bible and our faith come alive for daily living. Some of the primary tenants of our faith:
·
Confession
precedes forgiveness and salvation
·
Salvation is
assured through faith in Jesus Christ
·
We believe
in calling Jesus “Lord”, and follow Him to live our lives
in service to others
·
We provide
for disciplined study of both the Old and New Testaments
·
We believe in
nourishing all life on this planet that God has created
·
We
acknowledge that all God’s children fall short of that which God intended
·
We recognize
prayer as an essential ingredient of all we do in the church and in life

i.e., their Christmas pageant. The children are encouraged to bring their
friends. Contact Pat
Sanders for more information.

As there were in Old Testament time's Elders for the government of the people, so, the New Testament Church provided persons with particular gifts to share in governing and ministry.
The people choose Elders. Together with the minister they exercise leadership, governments, and discipline and have responsibilities for the life of the church. The Session, sixteen acting elders meet on the fourth Monday of the month.
The office of Deacon as
set forth in Scripture is one of sympathy, witness and service after the
example of Jesus Christ. Persons of spiritual
character, honest repute, of exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, warm
sympathies and sound judgment are chosen for this office.
Deacons minister to those in need, to the sick, to the friendless and to any in distress. The Deacons six members meet monthly.
